Do you have what it takes to master the muddy Balkan jungles?

This tour is completely different from the other tours that we organize. In the east of Serbia, in the Carpathian mountains, there are forests and river valleys where we usually don’t take participants of the other tours that we organize, simply because there’s a risk that they would get stuck in the deep mud, and spend several hours recovering from that swampy area. Sometime challenging river valleys spread along several kilometres, taking us through the riverbed, from one side to the other many times. These mountains are relatively low, but they offer an immersive, and challenging experience for the hardcore offroader!

Where?

Tour start

The tour starts with a few days in the vicinity of the small town of Smederevska Palanka, in an area that has some moderate rolling hills, but is known as muddy hell for offroaders, with lots of mudholes which are a real challenge even for the best equipped cars and most experienced drivers. So there’s no gradual introduction into Serbian muddy hell, you plunge right into it from the start!

Next days will take us to the second, even bigger mud challenge area, to the Homolje mountains, with all it’s deep forests, featuring steep slopes and numerous small rivers and creeks.

Moving on

Some of the highlights of the tour feature the Dubacica river valley, a 4 km long, completely abandoned area in western Homolje mountains, where the trail goes for a while through the very riverbed, crossing from one side to the other all the time. As a special treat, at the end of this journey, we cross the big and deep Mlava river, which can really be raging in early spring, when the snow from the mountains is melting.

Although that is not the focus of the hard-core tours, the serbian Carpathian mountains will also feature some quite beautiful scenery, featuring enchanting mountainous landscape full of cliffs, deep canyons, caves and strong water springs, so in the rare moments that you will have to take a break from all the mud and winching, you will get a chance to truly enjoy tens of kilometres of pristine nature, now almost abandoned due to depopulation of the area.

More tour details

The length of our daily tracks will vary from about 25 km, to 50 or 60 km, which is a realistic maximum when travelling on demanding forest trails. Except for Homolje mountains, the tour will feature in part the Iron Gate mountains, as well as Kučaj mountains, and there will be days which are a bit more relaxed in terms of technical challenges than others, as we need a way to bridge the distances between different areas where we’ll find our challenges.

Accomodation

As this is a hotel tour, our accomodation will be in good 3 and 4-star hotels, of which some will feature natural thermal water swimming pools, sauna and other wellness facilities, so after a heavy day in mud you will get a chance to relax and have a complete detox in an extremely comfortable environment.

In all of the hotels we have half-board service, meaning that dinner and breakfast are included in the tour price. For lunch breaks you should have something to bite on in your cars (it’s not included in the tour price or distributed by us). All of the hotels also feature free wifi access.

Refueling will be no issue during the tour, as we have sufficient opportunities to refuel in the vicinity of most of our hotels, or along the way on our routes. So you don’t need extra fuel cans for the tour. The only exception may be vehicles with petrol engines, which are big consumers.
